Tokidoki themed River cruise

During our staycation at Tokidoki x The Quay Hotel , we combined it with a Tokidoki river cruise that is just a 15min walk away from the hotel. We were Tokidoki-thrilled that day! Singapore looks extremely beautiful and we looked extremely beautiful too with the colourful lights from the Tokidoki boat. Let the photos do the talking. Totally no filters and editing and using only an outdated Oppo phone camera.

Kids were excited to take the boat ride

The kids admiring toki merlion

The kids were behaving quite suagu on the boat. They spotted the vomiting Merlion!

You see, I love the colourful lighting on the boat. Same scene took pics 3 times and the colour effects come out so nice.

Beautiful right? Children’s Day is coming. Go combine the tokidoki staycay with a tokidoki river cruise if possible. The kids are really happy that day!

Singapore’s most instagrammable hotel – Tokidoki x The Quay Hotel

Hotel entrance

You know what I like about hotels? I can have ultimate privacy and behave as silly as I want with no eyes on me. And you know what I like about Tokidoki? The talented Simone Legno can create cuteness overdose out of an abstract art. Everytime I stare at the prints, I can discover some new characters or some cute little features which I have not noticed before. So when The Quay Hotel x Tokidoki combine together, the fangirl in me goes wild. I can stare at the toki prints non stop and I can camwhore crazy in privacy and do not need to be shy and do crazy poses.

Spot me!

OK, let me begin by saying about the hotel before spamming with photos. Although it is a small boutique hotel, it has all the services and amenities that a hotel should have. Upon check-in, we get a surprise and get to choose a Tokidoki blind box.

Lovely surprise!

The lobby

Coffee, tea, kettle, mini fridge, safe box, hairdryer, full toiletries are all provided and amazingly, there is a built in writing table with chair which you can pull out to use when needed. What I like is that the hotel uses all universal power point so there is no need to bring any travel adapter for international travellers.

Smart TV in the rooms

Not forgetting the internet speed here is excellent. Each room has its own router point and you can select 2.4ghz or 5ghz.

OK, now moving on to Tokidoki. The Quay hotel is Asia’s first Tokidoki pop-up hotel. There are 3 theme rooms – 24K Signature, Pastel Dreamland and Mermicorno rooms.

24K signature is the biggest room and suitable for bigger families as there is space for extra bed or baby cot. If only Jujube produces bags of this colour scheme. I really like the gold with black.

Mermicornos room is quite an universal theme. Blue colour scheme like staying under the sea, the husbands will approve as the room is not overly girly. And who won’t like the combination of unicorns+mermaids? Mermicornos are our dear Merlion relatives!

Surprise! Your curtain opens up to an “Under the Sea” view.

Lastly, Pastel Dreamland is the room I stayed a night in. The room where I camwhored whole day in.

How happy Lm was when she saw the 2 unicornos on the bed.

Except for the 2 stuffed unicornos, we can bring the 2 Donutella drink holder floats, the slippers, the limited edition tokidoki coasters, tokidoki cookies, pen and notepad (not shown here) home as souvenir.

Everytime reach hotel rooms, the first thing must do is to have the monkeys jumping on the bed. 😅

OK, before I can camwhore, the kiddo decided to KO first as the room and pillows are too comfortable.

Tokidoki x The Quay Hotel 代言人

And while Lm is napping, why not spot my favourite character? Little Terror and Donutella are my favs!

Shower also very shiok to be staring at the toki shower bottles and handwash. Wish I can bring them home too!

OK, enough on the rooms.

Tip: Go with a group of friends and book all 3 rooms if you can, you will feel like a King that has bao-ed the whole floor of the hotel as the 3 rooms are all located at the top floor of the hotel with a Donutella Sweet Shop rooftop garden beside. The whole floor will be your playland!

The exterior of the rooms

The sexy women outside our rooms

Video tour of the outdoor space. Play haven for the kids. And very cosy place to hold parties.

Lovely view of Singapore from the rooftop garden

Search for Little Terror. She’s hiding everywhere.

The kids were having a very busy morning the moment Donutella opens shop!

Book now via (http://hotels.cloudbeds.com/reservation/YTIGr7) to enjoy your early bird promotional rates. *Bonus* Your room rates include complimentary breakfast at the instagrammable restaurant next door too!

Reminder: Talk and don’t watch YouTube!

Malacca with Kid Pt 2

I have been feeling guilty because I have not gotten to writing about part 2 of our Malacca trip. And it has been a year! Malacca has become rather kids friendly with quite a few places to play.

  1. The Shore Oceanarium is a new attractions. It is rather small and easily toured finish within half an hour. One of an interesting area is the magical vacuum aquarium where I can put my hands in to touch the fish yet interestingly, the fish nor water will flow out. Upon paying for admission, we get a magnet and a kids activity sheet and if completed, can exchange for a gift. Worth a visit there. In the same mall, The Shore, there is also a Toy Museum to visit.

8989

We did not visit here though

2) After visiting The Shore, there is a Melaka river cruise booth right outside the mall where one can go on a leisure boat ride to view the beauty of Melaka town filled with history and buzz and recent years their walls are painted with colouful murals.

3) Walking along the road from the malls towards Jonker, there are lots of activities there where you can pay to play. Bicycles of all types, horse cart which we took but was quite boliao actually, those kids ride on cars, there are ktm train, aeroplane and T-rex around where you can take pictures with, and many other little kids toy that people were selling.

4) There is no need to go all the way to Japan to make cup noodles. Right in Melaka, there is a Mamee Monster museum which has fun activities for the kids.

5) Lastly, if taking pictures are your love, there are many instagrammable spots here and there.

Roadtrip to Malacca Pt 1 – Medical service, Hotel, Food.

Malacca (Melaka) is uber kids friendly! And uber friendly too!

It’s Lm 2nd time to Malacca. I think she is 马 clashes with 马六甲. Both times she fell sick and she is a strong girl who seldom falls sick. Thankfully she recovered really fast within a day. And thankfully we stayed very near to a medical centre with 24hrs A&E so doctors and medications are easily available. Contrary to the big news currently about the Singaporean man who passed away in JB due to slow response from their medical care and requesting for payment before treatments, our A&E experience was fast and pleasant in Mahkota. There was no patients when we arrived on their National Day public holiday, got registered within 5 min, no asking for any deposit, and was able to see a medical officer within 5 min.

Waiting to see the MO

After that we got called to make payment and medicine to collect at the pharmacy. Whole process probably less than half an hour.

A mental note that I should probably have a habit to do a Google to see where is the nearest pd or hospital at the destination that you are traveling to in future. Here’s the address of the A&E that we went to in case anyone needs the info when travelling to Malacca.

Mahkota Medical Centre
(Private Hospital)
No. 3, Mahkota Melaka, Jalan Merdeka, 75000 Malacca, Malaysia
Note: Hospital is just beside Hatten Hotel

Next, I want to mention about the hotel that we stayed in. Cheap and good and fantastic location.

Hotel

This trip is a last min getaway hence there wasn’t many accomodation choices when I do the bookings. The popular Hatten Hotel was not available on agoda and I came across Imperial Heritage Hotel (IH) which is really cheap and location seems fantastic. In fact, IH location is so much better than Hatten that I most probably will never stay in Hatten. I do not like to go places that all other Singaporeans are at…

IH is just located in front of Dataran Pahlawan Mega mall and is just a straight walk all the way to Jonker. You can see Hatten is located further away hence I don’t find them fantastic.

The straight road to Jonker. Equatorial Hotel is on the right.

Below IH there is a Nasi Padang which we went for supper at 1am. Prata is good, curry yucky though… The fried chicken wings looked yummy but I didn’t have chance to order…

We got a huge room with comfortable bed.

Their pool isn’t great though. Water is cold and looks dirty. Just enough for young kids to splash around the jacuzzi since there is no bathtub in the rooms.

Yaya, she’s sick, so only a foot soak for her.

Breakfast area

I think this is like my 5th or 6th trip to Malacca already so this current trip is more on finding attractions for the kid and eat and eat and eat. It seems like within a short span of 2 years, there has been quite a lot of new buildings up here now. Plenty of hotel choices now, I have stayed in Jonker Street before, very good location but very noisy, not a place to stay if you are driving actually. Stayed at outskirt of city centre before, cheap but need drive everywhere. And stayed near the Little India area before. Quite a long walk to Jonker. Think staying near the malls is still a better location.

Address: Imperial Heritage Hotel
No 1, 1, Jalan Merdeka, Taman Melaka Raya, 75000 Malacca, Malaysia
Food

Day 1

We try not to eat back the same food that we have eaten before. Stopover in Kulai for Bak Kut Teh Breakfast.

Verdict: 3/5. Kids-Friendliness: 4/5.

They serve in individual bowls. Not worth a stopover for…

Address: Restoran Sze Hwa Bak Kut Teh

Jalan Seruling 1, Taman Sri Kuali Baru Dua, 81000 Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia

Reach Malacca and wanna give a special mention to Amy’s Nyonya House. The restaurant is full without reservation hence we were not able to dine there for lunch. Lm was not well reaching Malacca and she puked all over the restaurant upon stepping in. I felt so embarrassed hence would like to thank the staffs there for cleaning up her mess. Thankfully her puke totally has no smell at all and mostly all water as she had only plain rice and coconut juice earlier on.

We had lunch instead at this Bayonya Restaurant just outside our hotel after checking in first.

Verdict: 2.5/5. Kids-Friendliness: 4.5/5.

No wonder there’s no crowd.

Address: Bayonya Restaurant

164, Jalan Taman Melaka Raya, 75000, Melaka, Melaka, 75000, Malaysia

Dinner at Tong Sheng Restaurant. Super long queue. Think took us 2 hours before being able to eat.

Verdict: 3/5. Kids-Friendliness: 2/5. Overhyped not worth queueing so long for it.

Fresh Milk Crab

Cheese Beehoon

Only these 2 dishes are nice. Never ever order the salted egg tofu, it’s terrible!

Address: Restoran Tong Sheng
No. 377 & 378, Taman Melaka Raya, 75000 Melaka, Malaysia
Opening hours : 5.30pm-11pm (closed on Mon)

Day 2

Chendol at Tan Kim Hock. Not that we want to come to tourist trap but just that it is beside the wanton mee. Look at the durian on top of the chendol. It’s durian dodol. What happened to fresh durian puree? Disappointing.

Verdict: 3/5. Kids-Friendliness: 4.5/5

Somewhere online recommended the wanton mee here. We came for breakfast. Also ordered Fried Carrot Cake.

Verdict: 2.5/5. Kids-Friendliness: 4/5

I’m not too sure why all the food in Malacca that we have eaten this time round tasted terrible so far. 😢

Address: Medan Selera Cheng Ho Hawker Centre
Opening hours: 7am-11pm

Popiah for lunch. BEST food so far! The bak you is so fragrant.

Verdict: 4.5/5. Kids-Friendliness: 1/5

More ingredient and more evenly spread chili sauce will be good.

Look at the queue!

Address: Bunga Raya Popiah (In front of Madam King’s dept store)
78, Jalan Bunga Raya, Kampung Jawa, 75100 Melaka, Malaysia
Opening hours: 1pm-8pm

Further in front of the Popiah, we saw a shop selling coconut drink and a Hee Kiaw noodle stall inside. We went inside for the Popiah and noodles for lunch and coconut shake to quench thirst. Satisfying lunch here. I can’t find the address, it’s just straight down from Popiah stall towards The Shore. You will see alot of coconuts at the shop.

Verdict: 4.5/5. Kids-Friendliness: 4/5

Can’t have enough of the coconut shake.

Dinner. Chicken rice balls are not our choice. So far we still only prefer our Singapore hainanese chicken rice. However, the sick girl requested only to eat fish ball and plain rice, so she is queen and we found fishballs here.

Verdict: 3/5. Kids-Friendliness: 4/5

The satay house opposite the Famosa Chicken Rice balls. Our satay came from here.

Address: Famosa Chicken Rice Ball – Jonker Street

28, Jalan Hang Kasturi, 75200 Melaka, Malaysia
Opening hours: 9.30am-5.30pm (Mon- Thu) , 9.30am-7.30pm (Fri-Sun)

Around round of durian chendol at San Shu Gong while waiting for grandparents to be back from night market shopping. The crowd was madness.

Verdict: 3.5/5. Kids-Friendliness: 4.5/5

Sick girl’s appetite was back! Verdict: 3.5/5

San Shu Gong Food Industries Sdn Bhd

33, Lorong Hang Jebat, 75200 Melaka, Malaysia
Opening hours: 10am-10pm

Day 3

Breakfast cum lunch. Famous Mee sua and oyster omelette. We managed to find seats immediately. However, got to wait 1 hour for the food to be served. At least we could sit down.

Verdict : 4/5. Kids-Friendliness: 2/5

Address: Pin Pin Hiong Restaurant
786, Lorong Hang Jebat, 75200 Melaka, Malaysia
Opening hours: 7.30am-2pm (closed on sun)

Ended off with another round of chendol at a shop few doors away from Mamee museum that sells Smelly tofu, rojak and fried squid too.

Verdict: 3/5. Kids-Friendliness: 3/5

And so this is the end of the Malacca food journey. Next post I’ll share about the attractions that we did this round.

2 more days to do the Heritage Institutions Children’s Season Trail.

I just brought Lm to complete this Heritage Institutions Children’s Season Trail today. They are ending on 2 July. This is different from the Museums Children’s Season which will last until 30 July 2017. They have a different passport of their own.

The participating institutions are 1) Indian Heritage Centre, 2) Malay Heritage Centre and 3) Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall (Wan Qing Yuan) . If your child completes all the passport chops, 3 chops in total, he can exchange for a goodie bag at the final visitor centre.

I got the passport booklet from Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall and they required us to take a picture with their 舞狮 to get the chop.

This is the 舞狮

Can park at Zhongshan Mall, there is free 1st 2 hours parking. There are 2 dragons outside the memorial hall for the kids to play.

When we went last weekend, there was a storytelling and a storyboard making session.

The other centres didn’t ask for any requirements and we got the chops during admission. The staffs at MHC weren’t very aware about this passport book though. MHC was our 2nd institution that we visited and it is a chop and go place. There is nothing interactive for the kids to play this period. I didn’t even take any pictures inside. However, outside MHC, it is actually quite beautiful and there are a couple of instagrammable spots.

We completed our last institution at the IHC and it was interesting for me as the building was new and quite an impressive architectural design. Outside the building was decorated colourfully too.

Outside IHC

Inside IHC, there is an area where we can take pictures with different hats. We had fun doing silly poses here.

So if you cannot think of where to go this weekend, consider doing the heritage institutions trail as it is ending this weekend.

Ps: The Thosai outside IHC is super yummy!

Our goodie bag. Some Goli and an interesting comic book that teaches Chinese words in English.

All about Sharks at Parkview Museum

Have you heard of Parkview Museum? Somehow I don’t know how I stumbled upon knowing about this museum and we went for their kids day “Young Shark Explorer” event last Saturday. I just have to register for their event the moment I heard about sharks!  Lm’s favourite with all things ferocious! The museum is having an exhibition about Sharks and Humanity right now and will end on 9 September.

The exhibition is actually quite small with a few paintings and sculptures relating to sharks.

The Young Shark Explorer day was quite fun and efforts were made in engaging the kids. Too bad they only have it on one day. Upon reaching, the kids were given a t-shirt and a Shark cap to wear.

Look how cute the little sharks were

They have a museum tour for the kids at that time. However, Lm got distracted when we came by this activity area.

Kudos to the staffs there going all out to entertain the kids. They started this “老鹰捉小鸡” game, changed into “Human catches little sharks” game and our kids were on form to join in the fun. Needless to say, blur Lm was the first to be caught!  😂

After getting high from the game, the kids got a bit too energetic and started climbing and playing hide and seek around this structure.

No idea why the kids seem to like this picture of the eye very much.

A place to pen down your thoughts about sharks.

This is mine!

Friso Powered Luggage Car

There is a Friso Roadshow ongoing at Nex till 14 May which is today. Went down yesterday’s morning to take part in their booth activities and received a photo for remembrance and a goody bag that comes with a  friso FM and rice cereal samples and a friso storage box that can also double up as a picnic mat.

There is also free balloon giveaway and friso’s balloon is not the normal latex balloon. Their balloon is humongous foil type balloon that doesn’t deflate!  Lm gotten one in December during their Gingerbread man baking workshop and until today it is still humongous and inflated taking up space at my house!

We’ve got 2 balloons now! The faded colour one was from Dec event!

Lastly, the highlight of the event is the mini remote control car race where you can have a chance to win a Friso powered car that is also a luggage and is also a toy.

What happened when you go on holiday and there is an active kid that can’t stay still?   You have a big toy car for the kid to ride on and play and control with using a remote.

What happened when you have a restless kid during mealtime on holiday?  You give the small remote control car for the kid to play.

And what can you use to store such a big toy?  You make it into a luggage to store even more toys for the kid!

We are ready to vrroom vrroom to our next holiday destination!

If your kid has never drank Friso before, you can try out the cold milk sample at Nex. Lm was probably thirsty after all the activities there and kept asking for more of the milk!

Fanpekka at Aeon Tebrau City

“FANPEKKA is an inspiration from “Finnish Method”; a child learns from play. Children can have the ability to live when they grow up. They can live independently, make responsible decisions and care for others.”

Located on the second floor of AEON Mall Tebrau City New Wing approximately size of 27,500 sq. ft. , it offers the staggering new experience as you can soon discover the four main sections of the theme park which focusing on nurturing the head and heart area strengthening the body, area for relaxation & area nurturing the head. FANPEKKA adding “themes” and “worlds” to a playground focusing on play equipment and functions. The “Little Trip” of the magical world of Tonttu was selected as the theme of FANPEKKA. Referring to a small Nordic town, Tonttu is the Finnish fairy that lives in the mysterious world where the middle ages and modern day coincide. The special feel in the air of “magic”, “fairies”, “Christmas”, and so on, which will engross both children and grown-ups alike, making visitors feel they have been whisked away to another world.

Quote from Aeon Fantasy Website.

Since they opened around end of last year, I have been wanting to find a chance to bring Lm there but as we do not drive in, I just didn’t know how to travel to Tebrau. Finally one day, I found out that there is a causeway link bus to take there and the journey is rather fast as the bus goes by the EDL Highway. Bus fare cost RM2.50 per pax. Bus number is BET 6, from the JB Sentral bus terminal, you walk all the way to the end, behind the KSL buses. Within around 20 min, we arrived.

I really enjoyed Aeon Tebrau as the mall is child friendly. You can push the aeon supermarket trolley around the whole shopping mall if your kid is tired from walking which is what we do. Or you can borrow those airport type baby stroller or even cute cartoon characters kiddy rides from the information counter. We stayed 2d1n there as I wanted to let Lm spend as much time as she wants in Fanpekka instead of rushing through. So we went Fanpekka on 2nd day instead and the first day is shopping and arcade play. Well,  if you only want to do a day trip, it is very doable also as the playground close at 11pm on weekends and 10pm on weekdays. They call it a theme park but actually I feel it is just like a bigger indoor playground with a bit of Kidstop feel.

Their Mascot

Admission fee. Suitable for age 2-12. Free admission for below 2.

After payment, Lm needs to come here to get her “passport” chopped.

On the left from entrance, this is the toys area. From railway tracks to dollhouse to Magformer toy to a reading area.

Pirate theme ball pit playground. The slide is super scary that I screamed when I accompanied Lm to slide.

Ball cannon

Lm found a treasure filled chest

Pretend play area. Bakery shop

My cute baker

Fast food server wannabe

Florist wannabe

Marche owner dream.

This is our favourite area where we build a house from scrape. I need to carry all these parts and join them together.

Ta-da! Our home sweet home

When hungry, there is a SDS restaurant that is incorporated into part of the playground. Food is affordable and nice.

Beside Fanpekka, Aeon Tebrau has a Molly Fantasy arcade inside Aeon department in level 2 also. There is a small playground area which cost only rm5 to enter which we didn’t have a chance to go in as they were closing when we wanted to enter at 9pm. So we just play at the arcade outside and 1 token = rm1. Outside is fun enough for Lm. Most games cost 1-2 tokens.

I was crazy over this anpanman cos we were still crazy over Japan.

Only 1 token if got 3 kids each kid only cost 10 sg cent to ride

All the games above cost only 1 token except this last scooter game which requires 2 tokens.

There is another arcade located further down beside toy r us. At level 1, there is a space where kids can play bouncy castle or sand art. Can also ride those battery operated cars or learn to ride a hoverboard. There were like never ending fun for Lm that she requested to go back Aeon the next day!

But Tolong me. I was shagged out.
